The fixed combinations timolol-brimonidine (BTFC) and timolol-dorzolamide (DTFC) were effective in controlling daytime intraocular pressure in patients with pseudo-exfoliative glaucoma. Pseudo-exfoliative glaucoma is a frequent type of secondary glaucoma, due to the pseudoexfoliatio capsulaecharacterised by the production by the crystalline lens of fibrillar material that is deposited on all ocular surfaces, obstructing the trabecular meshwork.
Pseudo-exfoliative glaucoma is characterised by rapid progression and is poorly responsive to medical therapy (AAO 2013).
The two fixed BTFC and DTFC combinations were both effective, without appreciable differences, in reducing IOP when taken as the first therapeutic approach.
