Special 'Italian Excellence' award to this important prevention initiative
The National Campaign for the Prevention and Diagnosis of Maculopathy, promoted between 29 January and 23 February 2018, by the Centro Ambrosiano Often (CAMO) and the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, received the Nutraceuticals Special Awardawarded in the context of the 'Excellence in Scientific Information and the Centrality of the Patient' contest.
Under the patronage of the FNOMCeO, the 'Le Eccellenze dell'Informazione Scientifica e la Centralità del Paziente' (Excellence in Scientific Information and the Centrality of the Patient) Award is now in its second edition, with the support of Mercurio Group.
The awarding of the prizes is entrusted to physicians via an online survey, validated by a board consisting of researchers, doctors, professors, top managers from the pharmaceutical industry and institutions.
The event aims to enhance the social role of correct, ethical and timely scientific information.
In this context the Maculopathies campaign 2018 had all the numbers to win: twenty Centres were involved, including Hospital Presidia and University Clinics, distributed throughout the country, which for about a month made available to the population teams of specialists for a free examination through which they could diagnose the presence of any form of maculopathy, and possibly suggest the appropriate therapies.
SIFI has actively supported this campaign as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting ocular prevention, to which it combines the offer of a complete range of supplements aimed at ensuring the correct nutritional intake, which is essential to ensure the health of the retina.
I Maculopathy campaign results were presented at a press conference on 30 May at the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan.
Professor Francesco Bandello, Director of the Ophthalmology Clinic at the University Vita-Salute-Istituto Scientifico San Raffaele in Milan, and Dr. Lucius Burattoscientific director of the Centro Ambrosiano Ophthalmico (Camo) presented the results of this important prevention initiative to the journalists in attendance.
A total of 2,856 examinations were carried out and 424 maculopathies diagnosed: alarming numbers that confirm the importance of the combination of information and prevention in order to better manage eye diseases that can now be diagnosed early and managed in such a way as to best preserve visual function even in the case of degenerative eye diseases.
