Dry eye: listen to the podcast

New episode of the L'Oculista Italiano podcast to promote visual wellbeing

Dry eye or 'dry eye' is a complex ophthalmic pathologynot a simple discomfort due to temporary dryness or redness of the ocular surface.

In medical terms, this is referred to as 'dry eye syndrome' or 'Dry Eye Disease (DED)'.

It is a frequent disorder in women over 50, partly because of the new hormonal balance due to the menopause, and in contact lens wearers. Nowadays, it is also occurring more and more frequently in younger people, as explained in the third episode of 'Ascolta e vedrai', the podcast of 'L'Oculista italiano' to promote and support the wellbeing of eyesight, to learn about and protect our eyes.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic thedry eye has also seen a very worrying increase in children and adolescents, due to the prolonged use of digital devices and the increased stay in enclosed environments, both hot and cold air-conditioned.

This increasingly frequent and widespread ocular pathology involves significant alterations in the tear film and has a multifactorial origin as it is related to numerous factors: environmental (pollution, conditioning), incorrect lifestyle (prolonged use of digital devices or contact lenses, inadequate diet, poor hydration), systemic pathologies (often autoimmune-based), but also the use of certain drugs (e.g. anti-glaucomatous drugs).

How can you learn to recognise the symptoms of dry eye early and know what remedies to take? All the more reason to listen to the new episode of 'Ascolta e vedrai' the podcast of the Italian Oculist, produced in collaboration with ADNkronos and also present in the platforms - Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Spreaker .

The next episode will be devoted to a disease that is becoming increasingly common, not least in connection with longer life expectancy: senile cataracts.
