The big day has finally come: Toti's house opens its doors to young people with autism.
Toti's House opened thanks to the launch of two projects financed by Fondazione con il Sud and the Department of the Family of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers respectively.
Young people with autism now take the field and become protagonists of their future.
Thanks to the work carried out by Muni Sigona and her husband Michele Lanza, these children and their families will be able to carry out inclusive and educational workshops, together with their brothers and sisters (the 'siblings'), which will involve as many as 50 children in a wide variety of fields: graphic arts, photography, gardening, cooking, baking, and work skills. In addition, 7 work placement placements are planned in preparation for the start-up of the ethical hotel, run with the help of the siblings.
The activities were planned to foster the socialisation and training of the young people, their inclusion in the community through the acquisition of skills, the enhancement of talents and the opportunity to make themselves useful.
Casa di Toti qualifies, therefore, to be not a place of care: the young people will learn to be as autonomous as possible, to have their own identity and to interact with the world around them.
Tomorrow, the facility will also be a residential centre that in the perspective of 'after us' will have to provide support for their new autonomy and independence from the family unit of origin.
All this was possible thanks to the support received from the community, from many families (over 80 private donors) and from over 40 companies (including SIFI), largely coordinated by the Fairy Children Foundation by Franco Antonello.
These new opportunities are just a starting point from which new and exciting challenges will arise for Muni and its Association: the young people must be prepared for the future, and there can be no more delays. Only time will tell if this gamble will be won. In the meantime, let us enjoy the beautiful smiles of the boys and their families!
