- Retinopathy of the Premature (ROP): a new predictive model can identify the risk of ROP, an eye disease that can lead to blindness, at an early stage. The model, which is available in the form of an online application, is easier to apply than others already in use, as it uses only a little information collected at the time of birth, such as gestational age, weight and gender of the newborn. Increasing the distance between objects facilitates their identification by people with retinal diseases that impair central vision. These are the findings of a recent study conducted on subjects suffering from neovascular AMD (age-related macular degeneration), a degenerative eye disease that impairs central visual acuity. Intervening on the arrangement of objects in the surrounding space by distancing them can, therefore, significantly improve the independence and quality of life of sufferers of these diseases.
