Watch out... for... resistant bacteria! - symposium 15 March

Appointment on 15 March in Milan for the symposium on antibiotic resistance, part of the AICCER 2019 Congress programme.

As every year, AICCER 2019 is an important appointment for all Italian cataract and refractive surgery experts, and for companies it is a valuable opportunity to promote scientific meetings on topical issues in ophthalmology.

The AICCER Congress 2019 will take place this year from 14 to 16 March at the MiCo (Milan Convention centre), Via Gattamelata, 5 with a packed programme of scientific sessions and live surgery.

SIFI, which has always been committed to promoting the education and updating of the medical profession, has the pleasure to invite you to the symposium 'Watch out... for... resistant bacteria!' which will take place on 15 March from 1 to 2 p.m. in Room Yellow 3.

The symposium will address the issue of antibiotic resistance, which has now become a real public health emergency. According to theEuropean Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), in Italy, antibiotic resistance remains among the highest in Europe, mainly due to incorrect and excessive use, in particular, of specific classes that are much less used in other countries, such as cephalosporins and fluoroquinolones.

The phenomenon of multi-resistant antibiotics also has an important impact in the ophthalmic field and is of particular interest with regard to strategies implemented to prevent postoperative endophthalmitis.

You will have the pleasure of hearing the report "Focus on antibiotic resistance: can it be contained?" by Prof. Stefania Stefani, an expert microbiologist, who will address the'antibiotic resistance emergency' and its spread, suggesting measures and behaviour to be taken to contain it.

This will be followed by a report on 'Resistant bacteria in ophthalmology' by Dr Fabrizio Camesasca, a renowned cataract surgeon, who will illustrate the prophylaxis choices currently available, the best practice recommended by national and international societies, the therapeutic steps to be taken on a daily basis to avoid post-operative infections caused mainly by multi-resistant bacteria, such as the dreaded MRSA and MRSE.
