Tears tell our emotions, they are different if they originate from sadness or happiness. Photographer Rose-Lynn Fish photographed them, creating a unique tale of emotions.
Photographer Rose-Lynn Fisher has created an extremely original project "The Topography of Tears.
This is a study on How tears change in relation to our emotions. It consists of 100 images taken with an optical microscope and enlarged 100 to 400 times.
The idea came about during a difficult period for the artist, marked by loss and... many tears.
It was then that Rose-Lynn wondered if her tears of sorrow looked different from her tears of joy.
The answer was yes and resulted in a fascinating photo sequence taken in the most diverse situations: from tears shed peeling onions to tears of anger, pain, frustration, laughter, sleepiness and more.
The enlarged images of tears seem to evoke aerial reproductions of rough terrain: a kind of mirror image of our natural macro-world reflected in the micro-world of our emotions!
Tears are the communication signs of our most primordial language: they occur in many extreme moments, such as death, or as elemental as hunger. They are the signs of our inner life, which overflows from its confines and enters the conscious world
Currently, 'The Topography of Tears' is housed at the Ostwall Museum in Dortmund (Germany) and will be on show at Palais de Tokyo in 2015 as part of the exhibition, Le Bord des Mondes.
