LOOK UP, GET UP AND NEVER GIVE UP. THAT’S THE ATTITUDE OF A TRUE LEADER…

During the race, and anytime they assume their driving position, all Grand Prix motorcycle racing athletes constantly look up. Their gazing position is always upwards facing. Their ocular surface is constantly subject to this pose, to the air flo, to occurring environmental conditions that may alter the delicate balance that is present in the eye.

This was one of the concepts that initiated the Driving Vision Science scientific investigation in 2015. We wanted to develop the hypothesis that in such a situation, any subject’s vision would be under dire stress and visual performance would deteriorate. We wanted to investigate and gather data that would benefitthe international ophthalmic community & the general public about the importance of eye health and eye care. We are proud to be able to continue in this direction, with the ever present objective of ethically sharing this data and elaborated information with our stakeholders.

We studied ocular surface symptoms, visual acuity, contrast sensitivity and blinking intervals in MotoGP riders on and off the track. We obtained images of the anterior segment, and we measured, for example, even tear film osmolarity. Over time, we decided to expand scientific data gathering to a broader spectrum of the eye, like retina, ocular pressure and other fundamental parameters through state of the art technological instrumentation and through the help of leading world experts in ophthalmology and eye health.
